Role Overview
Salary: From £12.71 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours: Bank (on‑call) – flexible shifts
Contract: Zero‑hours / Bank assignment
We are seeking reliable and caring Early Years Practitioners to join our bank team in Weston‑super‑Mare. As bank staff you will provide flexible, high‑quality care and play experiences for children aged 0–5 across our setting(s), covering planned and unplanned staff absence. This role is ideal for candidates who value variety, flexible working and the opportunity to support children’s learning and wellbeing in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Learning
Deliver engaging, age‑appropriate care, play and learning activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Support daily routines including mealtimes, sleep, nappy changing and personal care in accordance with nursery policies.
Prepare resources and learning environments to support children’s curiosity, development and independence.
Observe children and contribute to records, assessments and planning, sharing information with room leaders.
Safeguarding, Health and Safety
Follow safeguarding, child protection and health and safety procedures at all times.
Report any concerns about a child’s welfare or safety promptly to a senior colleague.
Maintain a safe, hygienic environment and adhere to infection control and medication procedures.
Partnership with Parents and Carers
Welcome children and families warmly and provide clear, professional communication about care and development.
Work with parents and carers to support children through settling, transitions and daily routines.
Teamwork and Professional Conduct
Work cooperatively as part of the room and wider nursery team when covering shifts.
Be punctual, reliable and adaptable to different rooms, age groups and settings as required.
Engage with supervision, training and feedback to maintain and improve practice.
Person Specification
Essential
A genuine commitment to the care, safety and development of young children.
Reliable, flexible and able to work a variety of shifts on our bank rota.
Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and families.
Willingness to undertake required pre‑employment checks including an enhanced DBS.
Desirable
Relevant childcare qualification (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years) or working towards one.
Previous experience working in a nursery, preschool or similar early years environment.
Knowledge of the EYFS and current early years practice.
